About this activity
Peer mentors help make the transition to university easy and enjoyable for new undergraduate students. Peer mentors will share their experience, advice, and connect new students with study and engagement opportunities at the University.
Why become a peer mentor?
There are many reasons for becoming a peer mentor, from recognition for emplayability, to opportunities to learn from and make new connections. Some of the major benifits are:
- Gain leadership training and experience.
- Develop your interpersonal, communication and group facilitation skills.
- Build your professional network within the University community.s
- Develop a sense of belonging and connection between students and the University.
- Gain a deeper understanding of cultural differences and diversity.
- Make new friends and meet new people.
Time commitment
It is estimated that each participant will need to dedicate at least 20 hours to satisfactorily complete this activity. This time commitment includes X hours training.

Eligibility requirements
In order to be considered for the Melbourne Plus award, applicants will need to be:
- a current undergraduate or post graduate student,
- who is studying for at least two academic semesters
Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection.
The Selection Committee may seek further information to clarify any aspect of an application in accordance with the Academic Board rules on the use of selection instruments.
Applicants are required to satisfy the university's Graduate English language requirements for graduate courses. For those applicants seeking to meet these requirements by one of the standard tests approved by the Academic Board, performance band 6.5 is required.
